WA College Grant

Students were at the forefront of the creation of our country’s most equitable financial aid program, now it serves nearly 100,000 students each year and has grown every year since its creation.

Local Tuition Setting

Students lobbied for a cap on tuition increases after the recession caused institutions to dramatically increase them, now the state authorizes how much they can increase each year.

Students were responsible for requiring that professors provide reasonable accommodations for students for religious purposes.

Fentanyl Overdose Prevention

 Students led a bill last year to require fentanyl overdose prevention resources, Narcan and training on all college campuses.

Dream Act 2.0

This allowed undocumented students to have access to the Washington College Grant since they are not eligible for federal financial aid.

This bill provided oversight for student loan providers and created a dedicated student loan advocate available for free.

Limiting Differential Tuition

Students led efforts to limit the usage of differential tuition, separate institution-added fees, for specific undergraduate & graduate programs.

Students in the WSA proposed legislation requiring K-12 schools to teach comprehensive sex, sexuality and consent education before students attend college.

This bill requires college campuses to provide students with same-day voting and ballot printings stations up to 8 days before every general election.

Notifying Eligible Students of the WCG

This bill allowed students who received SNAP benefits in high school to be directly notified they were eligible for the Washington College Grant.
